Today, Digium announced the release of IP phones, their first foray into the IP telephone marketplace. Of course, leave it to Digium to break ground. The phones include an app engine with a simple yet powerful JavaScript API that lets programmers create custom apps that run on the phones. They aren’t simply XML pages; Digium phone apps can interface directly with core phone features. This opens the door wide open for developers to create exciting new applications.

And thoughts from a Digium Distributor:
All, in all, this announcement has the PBX industry buzzing this morning. Our Digium Switchvox customers will certainly be happy to hear the good news about the tight integration between the Digium Phone and the Switchvox PBX. Plus, the price points are very appealing. Digium executives explained that they wanted a Digium phone to be the equivalent quality as a Polycom but at a lower price point and with additional capabilities.
What do you think about the Digium IP Phone announcement?
