What are the Benefits of BYOD?

Is BYOD Right for Your Organization?

Even if you don’t know what the acronym BYOD means, you’ve likely considered or debated its role within your organization. BYOD, or more commonly known as Bring Your Own Device, is a policy that organizations are implementing and structuring to outline how employees can use their personal devices for their work life.

Benefits of BYOD

What is most attractive to organizations are the cost saving benefits, which include the opportunity for employees to work from home, thus saving on office space, prompt customer service communications, seamless Unified Communications solutions, and lessened dependency of desk phones.

The Cons of BYOD

BYOD allows employees to utilize their personal devices, such as smartphones and tablets, for their day-to-day work tasks, but can your oroganization afford to have sensitive data hosted on your employees personal devices? The potential for data breaches and privacy breaks are very real, which creates a very worrisome scenario for business leaders.

I came across this video via #UCTechChat, which concisely debates BYOD. I hope that the following video will give you the background, drawbacks and benefits to BYOD to help your organization make the best decisions possible.

Does your organization have a BYOD policy? What is the best benefit that you’ve experienced? What
causes you the most concern? I’d love to hear your feedback.
